Name and Age:
Irene and Maarten van Klaveren, 37 and 39 years of age.
Present residence and country:
Chvaleč a small village in the north of the Czech Republic.
Activity:
At this moment we are the owners and keepers of Oranový dům, "the Orange house".
We are also advisers for interior (renovation) and kitchens.
Reason for leaving Holland:
The ratrace and the busy lives. We wanted to start something of our own, to have time for eachother and the good things in life and don't want to think when we are 65 "What if...?". Here in Czech Republic it was possible. We bake our own bread, spend hours in the kitchen preparing dinner and when it's a beautiful day we go hiking or some other activity in the beautiful nature.
Reaction of the ones who stayed behind:
Proud, fantastic, "always thought you would do something like this" and sometimes a little jealous, because there are a lot of people with the same idea.
What do Czech people think of Holland?
Expensive, busy, crowdy and full. People enjoy life less. But also sparkling, flat, rich and with a lot of flowers. Especially the cities with canals they fancy. And they love Dutch cheese.
