| Informatie about the Giant Mountains (Krkonoe) |
| The Giant Mountains are, together with the Eagle Mountains, maybe the most wonderfull areas in the Czech Republic.
It can be recognised by its flat peaks and deep and steep slopes. The "Sneka" is with 1602 meters the highest mountain of the Czech Republic. From Chvaleč the Sneka
can be reached within 30 minutes. In total the Giant Mountains take about 40 km in length and 20 km in wide.
Because the mountains is not very large (ca. 600 km2) it's excelent for trips. It's therefor very easy to get to know the mountains and you quickly will feel at home . Many marked paths, which start in the tourist centres can be found in the mountains. The paths will lead you along ridges and peaks. The top of the Sneka can be reached in this way by foot or by the spectacular cable-ride (takes about 25 minutes and 2 stages). It will show you magnificent views with Poland in the north and the Czech Republic in the south (the border is exactly on the top). The view from the top shows you the several paths downhill. But it's of course also possible to take the cable-ride down. The paths and tracks are also a perfect base for mountain biking. There is a large network of marked pathes to escort you and help you to explore the beautiful nature. We have to meantion that it's only alowed to ride on the marked paths. What is forbidden to ride mostly is signed. During the summer it's possible to use a special bus through the Giant Mountains in which you can take your bike. While deciding about your route you have to think about the terrain too. It depends on your condition whether it will be easy or not. Also you have to count the weather forcast and your bike, especialy the brakes, has to be technical perfect. When you get surprised by bad weather it's always possible to get shelter in one of the many mountain huts. |
